Memorial Announcement for John T. Brewer
(September 21, 1946 - July 12, 2018)




I write to honor the life of John T. Brewer, an active FUUSM friend for many years.  He died in a hospital in Columbus this week.  In keeping with his sense of humor, I have composed it as a letter.






Dear John,


I write to sadly say, that we cannot be together anymore.  You will always remain a friend I value and love.  Despite some distance in recent years, there is much I remember and celebrate as part of your life which touched many people in very meaningful ways.


If it is your wish to have no formal service, we will abide by your desire, but we will sing your praises, remember your stories, mourn your passing, and take up your passion for politics and social change.  


Over the years you experienced many of those changes first hand, working for GLBTQ rights with Together in Pride (and their award winning banner).  You were the anchor for that group. We remember you marching in parades and gathering at rallies for the numerous issues of justice and equality in health care and in our democracy (which is being drastically eroded).


A person who could live in the moment, and invite others to do the same, whether with your mom Doris or other friends, you could revel in the present moment and enjoy the company you’re with.  May it be so for those who remember you well at F.U.U.S.M.  May your extensive and persistent care for others extend into the future as a legacy in tribute to your example,
