For Sunday, May 21, the Today's Issues will feature a slide presentation by
Ernie Novak on the art of Valentin de Bolougne, corresponding to current
exhibits at London’s National Gallery and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of
Art. One of our readings discusses these exhibits. The slide show will
include many of the paintings discussed in the reading.
Our other topic will be a review of three books about the African-American
women who worked as human "computers" on the NASA space project. This story
was also featured in the recent movie "Hidden Figures"
The two readings from the New York Review of Books are as follows:
1. From the May 11 issue, page 8, Ingrid Roland, "The Virtuoso of
Compassion
2. From the May 25 issue, page 38, Priyamvada Natarajan, "Calculating Women"
The text of these articles is attached.
The group meets in the parlor of the Religious Education buildings next to
the church at 9:30 on Sunday morning. Please do the reading and attend our
stimulating discussion.
