[Fuusm-l] Capital Campaign

FUUSM Members & Friends:

      Last fall we had some excellent discussions--under the leadership 
of Jim Rapp and Capital Campaign Steering Committee-- about plans for a capital 
campaign in the next few years. Kevin Morey did an outstanding job of 
summarizing the discussions in a detailed spread sheet. There were many 
items listed about our historic buildings that need to be addressed--some are 
rather pressing and non-controversial such as the walls of the sanctuary, while 
others require more discussion and discernment, e.g., the pews in our  sanctuary. 
We are hoping that our relatively healthy finances for 2017-18 will allow us to 
address some of the more pressing items through our operational budget, 
trust funds, and some special funds.  We are also aware that there are several 
fund-raising initiatives already under way that might compete with a capital 
campaign, such as the stained-glass windows, the expansion of the solar 
panel project, and interfaith dialogue. For  these reasons the capital campaign 
has been deferred for the short term but will be revisited.  As we consider our 
capital needs for the future, we shall keep in mind how our congregation has 
changed since our sanctuary was originally built.
