Friends,
Our 2016 version of the Annual Service Auction is now less than a week away. We have plenty of Country Store items and oodles of juicy Silent Auction items, but we have only 28 Live Auction items, and many of them are physical items (jewelry, art, etc.). As you probably know, the Live Auction is the funnest part of the event and I hope to inspire you to be creative and add a few more services, dinners or events to up the excitement level.

We currently have 4 Live Auction Dinners or Events involving multiple participants and 6 food events in the Set Price category (this is due to popular demand for more affordable events). If you feel generous enough to offer a biddable extravaganza, here are some ideas from the past that were quite popular (and I am NOT expecting the previous donors of these items to repeat their successes – this is for new donors): Triple Crown races, Robert Burns dinner, Spring Garden party, country summer picnic, holiday parties, theme dinners. There are also many services that could be offered: house sitting, house painting, rides to the airport, pet sitting, gardening, minor chain saw work, roof work, gutter cleaning, lawn mowing, buying groceries, auto repairs, computer repairs, and gift wrapping. Take someone fishing even.

If you have items (or donation forms) you haven’t passed on to me yet, Sunday will be good time. It will save you from having to come early to the auction. Bringing items in while the Auction is happening is NOT recommended or appreciated, in spite of what I may have told to one of you. Also, everyone should know that we may have to leave out some of the donated items due to space considerations or because they are more appropriate for another venue. They may appear in future auctions or yard sales. If it doesn’t work or is old technology, maybe you should save it for later.

No matter what, you should try to join us next Friday at the Lafayette Ballroom. There is a door fee of $15 (cash preferred) to cover the great eatables we will have. You will also get a door prize ticket to drop in a jar if there is any chance you can stay to the end. Your odds of winning $100 are pretty good. Come and listen to the Fifth Street Quartet play between 6 & 7 and put in your bids for the many silent auction items. Plan on buying many Country Store tickets to improve your odds on all the surprises on those tables. We will start closing tables at 7 and get the Live Auction started as soon as we can.

If you can’t make it to the Auction, you can still bid on the items that will be in the catalogue that I will try to get out by email several days before the Auction. Please ask someone NOT on the auction team to bid for you. You will have to pay a $10 absentee bidding fee for your own paddle. If you win a bid in absentia, you may pay at a later date, but not too late please.

See you soon,
Mike
