Honoring Pat Evans

Today Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015  Pat Evans (74) finished waiting, and death came to her as it will come for each and all of us.  Pat was clear and firm in her convictions, but did not force her beliefs on anyone else, honoring religious liberty and freedom of belief as a cornerstone of her way of life.  A humanist U.U. who participated in several congregations, she had a perspective enriched by living in various parts of the country, and staying connected with many people.  She was dedicated to her work in Public Health Planning especially in WV and Ohio.

Pat was notably a gracious and generous woman.  She offered the range and wisdom of her experience, and was truly compassionate and caring of individuals, friends, and the community as a whole.  She lived a mantra that giving to others is good for your health (and you feel good).

Several years ago, when diagnosed with a kind of leukemia (PLL), Pat & Susan journeyed to the James Center (OSU) in Columbus, OH where a successful stem cell transplant gave her not 7 months, but 7 years to enjoy life, art and community.

Her paintings have been admired throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley with several shows, including a recent showcase at WesBanco in Parkersburg, WV.

I remember the time LeRoy and I enjoyed an amazing piece of chocolate cake & ice cream with Susan & Pat one winter when we drove from Mesa to Tucson, AZ. to visit with them, and to see Rev. Diane Dowgiert (FUUSM minister 2001-2006) and the church she serves now.  The wildflowers in Tucson are beautiful.

We honor the life of Patricia P. Evans, with great appreciation of Pat's generous and positive spirit, and
extend our sympathy and support to her sister, our friend Susan Neeley.

Plans for a possible memorial service in the Spring will be forthcoming.
All blessings,  Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker Bright Blessings, Kat
