Minutes for July 3, 2019 Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee
In Attendance: Adeline Bailey, Peg Clifford, Martha McGovern
Next Meeting: August 7, 5:00 p.m., Parlor
1.. Minutes of June were approved.
2.. Correspondence: Martha reported that thank you notes have been sent to presenters.
3.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team:

3.. Worship Associates Team: Kat and Jim Rapp will arrange a refresher for WAs.
4.. Piano Task Force:
5.. Technology Task Force: Jim Grecni is willing to work with Mike and Ralph to raise the level of the television for visibility to all in the sanctuary. Joe Baker (Buildings and Grounds) is also looking into the issue.
Kat reflected on power of Thinking Like a Film Maker by Marcia McFee and suggested the development of AV presentations for key services throughout the year. Cynthia Ting is willing to develop a display of her flower photographs. Martha will inquire whether Cindy Burton and Jimmy and Lyndsey Bennett are interested in involvement with this endeavor.
6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages: Martha will ask Ralph for a list to be developed that includes Dawn Widener.

4.. Communication: Martha will ask Ralph to include Martha Webster in Worship list.
5.. Expenditures: The Committee unanimously recommends that a donation of $500 be given early to the Multicultural Festival for 2020 so that our sponsorship will be part of all promotion for that event.
6.. Budget Proposal - how the proposed budget for 2019-2020 aligns with what was approved.
Issue of paid Choir Director
8.. Recommendation regarding contract with Choir Director Martha Webster-
By means of texting with Martha, the committee formulated the following stipend recommendation: $200 x 12 months = $2400 per year
The overall amount includes the Christmas Eve Service and covers preparation time during the summer hiatus.
9.. Outside Greeters -Adeline will bring Roger Kalter and the Safety Team into the discussion about facilitating the use of the lift.
10.. August 3 Leadership Training - Peg Clifford will represent the committee.
11.. Assessment of Service: Showing of Taped GA Sunday Morning Service
What went well: Using only segments of the taped service enabled us to include usual components of our FUUSM service and to control time. We also avoided buffer time.
It is recommended that in the future we tape the GA service and show selected parts on a Sunday after GA.
12.. New Theme for 2019-2020: How do we address the paradox of "We"?
13.. Services for September - December:
· clarification of various service/outreach activities of the local congregation and endeavors with UUA, UUSC, etc. and their relationship with FUUSM principles, mission
Need for tracking and regular reporting? For example in Finance Committee records and Annual Meeting report?? Do our church finances align with our mission?
· Katy McDaniel - Dark Tourism (responsibility of deity or humans?) Martha is awaiting response. Other date in September?
· Consolidation reflection for services related to theme for 2018-19 - Kat end of August
· On the day of the Planetarium visit, the topic for the Cozy Conversation will be the theme question for 2018-19: How can we inspire leaders for a complex world? BRIDGES has identified August 18 for the Planetarium.
· Possible speakers: Robin Bozian, artists: Dani, Morgan/Owen
· Workshop service: prayer flags - Kat and Peg will take the lead on the service; Jane Tumas-Serna is willing to help.
· Mind maps may help the congregation identify how they are active in FUUSM efforts/activities and what additional options they would like.
· Moral leadership: Truman and Berlin Air Lift

14.. Theme for Year 2018-2019: "How can we inspire leaders for a complex world?" [Try inductive approach and re-cap]
The Committee agreed to use #592 The Free Mind by William Ellery Channing as the guiding reading for the thematic year.
