1.. Minutes of the July meeting were approved.
2.. Correspondence: Martha is caught up with thank you notes.
3.. Issue of payment for Choir Director: The Committee is in favor of making Choir Director a paid position. We defer to the Personnel Committee in terms of the pay rate, but suggest $60-75 per session or $2400-3000 per year.
4.. Judith Bedard has declined the stipend for her July 9 presentation.
5.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:
1.. Aesthetics Team:
2.. Special Music Team: Suzyn
3.. Worship Associates Team: New member -Chris Jacobs
Martha will mentor Chris Jacobs on August 13.
Clarification of Summer Duties:
Hymnals: There was some discussion about placing the bookcase so that attendees can pick up their own hymnals.
Greeters will hand out order-of-service to be sure newcomers get folder and appropriate folks get large font copy. They need to make the basket for re-collection of the folders more obvious.
4.. Piano Task Force:
5.. Technology Task Force:
6.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:
5.. Transformative worship: Kat, Peg, and Randy will guide a Wonder-Full Worship session after the service on August 13.
6.. Re-Usable Folder: At the end of the summer, the contents and construction of the folder will be reassessed. Adeline will forward feedback, particularly about the Inclusion Statement, to Kat, and she will share suggestions with Dawn Michelle.
7.. Board policy concerning special collections: The Board will present policy options to the congregation at the September 24 meeting.
8.. Buildings & Grounds: Martha shared an email from Buildings & Grounds. The Committee requested a floor plan of the envisioned storage units in the Social Hall. Will the units house both chairs and tables? They mentioned the need for casters on the hymnal book case and the food serving unit. In terms of coordinating with painting of the sanctuary, the Committee agreed that January and February are good months for the work. They felt that the Social Hall could accommodate services during that time but identified the need to coordinate with BRIDGES, especially for the large group activities. Martha will talk with Kevin about the Committee's concerns and will report in September.
9.. Upcoming Services:
Kat - October 8 OR October 22 -- Andrew Clovis for attention to National Parks
Kat - October 1 - Blessing of the Animals in the afternoon
.
11.. Transition Back to Sanctuary:
Joys & Sorrows: The Committee expressed a preference for use of the Wheel of Life for during the September-June period. They concurred that the use of stones during the summer was effective and suggested that the stones could be incorporated into the Ingathering Water Service in some way.
Kat reported that she has acquired a chalice banner for the sanctuary.
On September 3, after the service, Martha and Peg can ask congregation members to help move the hymnals upstairs.
Kat will talk with the Aesthetics Team about preparing the Sanctuary for September 10.
12.. Holiday Decoration
Martha will meet with Jane Tumas-Serna and the Aesthetics Team to sort through current supplies. She will also coordinate with Men's Group and Women's Group about responsibility for the actual decoration. Considering the renewed windows and the projected Sanctuary painting, this may be a year for simple decoration. The Committee observes that a tree decorated with ribbons is appropriate to the UU perspective.
13.. Theme for Year 2017-2018 will be "How do we create a world of our values?"
14.. Possible Topics and speakers for future services: Touchstone REACH Packet, Hungry Town, multiple intelligences, powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values, June Teenth celebration, reflections of people who grew up in UU congregation (Jay Phillips, Mike Bailey, Dean Banziger), Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness, reflections of former ministers, Jim Couts on Jubilee Gardens, LeeAnn Gallucci on recovering from loss, Living Mindfully - Prepare for the Unexpected (Robin Bozian, Anita Newhart, Sue Montera, Virginia Mayle), anti-bullying and Shari's Flower Story, Quill as a storyteller, Quakers on consensus, morality of artificial intelligence.
