Minutes for November 4, 2015  Meeting of the Worship & Music Committee  

Next Meeting:  Wednesday, December 2, 2015 in the Parlor at 5:00 p.m.

 

In Attendance:  Adeline Bailey, John Maddox, Suzyn Mills, Martha McGovern (Chair)

  1.. Chalice Lighting 
  2.. Minutes of the October 7 meeting were approved. 
  3.. Nov. 29 -- John Maddox reported on plans for the whole congregation workshop to prepare holiday cards for delivery to care facilities in the area.  He will collect donations of cards and other supplies and then purchase additional materials as necessary.  The goal is preparation and delivery of 1000 cards.  Average attendance for this date has been 65.
AI - Shari will contact the Washington County Home.  

AI - Martha will coordinate with Rev Kat.

  4.. Coordination with BRIDGES for Holidays
December 27 - Rev Kat will lead a Non-Class Event for young people to prepare for Fire Communion  

January 3 - ALL AGES  Fire Communion    Jim Rapp is willing to lead this service.

  5.. Correspondence:  Shari - progress on new stationery?  Report on thank you notes?  Need to send note to Membership Committee via Darryl Ting for informative and inspiring service October 25,  to Lydia Hyde for singing on November 1, to Community Meal teams via Sue Price for the lively November 8 service. 
  6.. Reports from Specific Task Teams:  
    1.. Sanctuary Decoration Team to plan/implement monthly sanctuary decoration:  Nancy Novak, Jane Tumas-Serna, Karen Binkley, and LeeAnn Gallacci have volunteered to coordinate this effort. 
    2.. Special Music Team:  Suzyn reported that Kat, Dawn, and she will be singing for the November 22 service. 
    3.. Piano Task Force:  Suzyn reported that the Key Notes Coffeehouse, held October 17, brought in $350.00.  She recommends that we schedule a professional musician for the next coffeehouse. 
    4.. Technology Task Force:   
    5.. Task Force for the Time for All Ages:  Shari Miller, Kerry Blair, Dawn Weidner, Cindy Burton, Diane McMichael, Adeline Bailey, and Ron Tepley.  (Rachel Hyde, Gwen Banziger -- possible additions)  
    6.. Holiday Decoration Task Force:  Several names were suggested.  
AI - Martha will contact those individuals directly and will also make announcements in church and ask Chris to include a call for volunteers in the order of worship and in the weekly updates.

    7.. Christmas Eve Service Task Force:
  6.. Potluck Labels:  Suzyn reported that the project is close to the finish line. 
  7.. Larger chairs are needed in Fellowship Hall so that all attendees can be comfortable
Martha has notified Building and Grounds of this need.

  9.. Adeline:  We will delay the presentation on suicide and kindness by Bill Bauer for another time. 
  10.. Expenses:  David Torbett - $75.00 stipend, donated to World Church Service; Jessica Baldwin -- $100 for coverage of choir practice and worship service 
  11.. The Committee agreed to be a neutral pulpit site for Charleston congregation's ministerial search.  The dates are yet to be determined.  Possible dates - February 7, 14 and March 20.
AI - Martha will see whether dates are more definite at this point.

  12.. Planning of services for Sabbatical Year   [See detail below and long-term framework in coordination with BRIDGES Council.]  
 

·        Possible Topics and speakers for future services:  multiple intelligences, forgiveness,  powerful children's stories, ages of women, This I Believe, family stories as carriers of family values,  FUUSM stories (Archive Moments), June Teenth celebration, personal sources of inspiration (Sandy Bush), reflections of people who grew up in this UU congregation, the healing power of music, Bill Bauer on suicide and kindness, UUSC Guest at Your Table, selections from Ralph Olander's CrossCurrents ("Night Has Come" - for December), reflections of former ministers.

·        Theme of Anyone's Ministry:  Martha sent a general memo to the Council about using the "Anyone's Ministry" by Gordon McKeeman as the organizing concept for a series of reflections throughout the sabbatical year.  W & M Committee members have been contacting specific groups.  The series was launched by the W & M Committee on October 4 with an explanation and overview.
