What is Christianity’s core message? Guest speaker Jim Mangiafico will reflect on Christianity from a sympathetic but somewhat distanced perspective, asking what lasting meaning Christianity may offer even to those who no longer stand wholly within traditional belief. Drawing on modern philosophy, he will consider religion, generally, as a practice for cultivating joyfulness and will illustrate how reading the Christian gospels can do so. He will also explore what may be Christianity’s most distinctive teaching: its vision of forgiveness.
