<p dir="ltr">This evening I attended a planning meeting for Earth Day Marietta 2020. There was lots of discussion—even whether we wanted to have a centralized event this year. I’ll save you from all but the final decisions. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Earth Day Marietta 2020 will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the grounds of the Armory, but all the booths will be spread out. On-site activities (such as kids’
 crafts) will be discouraged to prevent crowding. There will not be a big, central tent.  The organizers will ask those who wish to have booths to bring their own pop-up tents, tables, and chairs, and if they don’t have them, the organizers will try to provide. The organizers also encourage the groups who wish to have booths to provide informational handouts, and ideally, crafts-to-go for kids. The organizers will provide a bag (plastic, unfortunately, but left-over from last year) for kids to carry such items home to assemble, and the first 50 or so such bags will have water bottles (also left over from last year). </p>
<p dir="ltr">There will be trash-to-art show of items made in advance, but no contest. We hope Michelle Wilson will bring her electric motorcycle to demonstrate. We hope the drumming circle will play (perhaps alternating sets with the School of Rock). </p>
<p dir="ltr">I told the organizers that the Green Sanctuary committee would like to have a booth, and that we will bring our own table, chairs, and pop-up tent. I said we would likely share the booth with Citizens Climate Lobby, and possibly with MOVCA (or maybe MOVCA would like its own booth? Either way.) </p>
<p dir="ltr">The organizers would also LOVE it if there were a booth providing voter registration. (I said I thought many UUs would be willing to help with that.) April 22 is too late for newly registered citizens to vote in the May primary, but at least they’d be ready to vote in the general elections. </p>
<p dir="ltr">As a separate event on April 9, Rural Action will be in town collecting hard-to-recycle (but not toxic or hazardous) items, as they were last year. Location to be determined, but volunteers will be needed. </p>
<p dir="ltr">Our next planning meeting will be Wednesday, March 9, at Peddler’s Junction on Front Street. I can attend that one, too, but I will not be in town on Earth Day weekend. So, if some other greenie would like to fill in for me on the Earth Day planning team, that would make sense. If not, I can attend again. </p>
<p dir="ltr">At our March GSC meeting we can discuss our involvement at both events. </p>
