Michael; I am doing some research on smart cities and towns for
a small town in France and will hopefully have some food for
thought by Sunday. I wonder if we can try to have one our goals
for this new direction of the grant to be somehow laying down some
groundwork for the Sustainable Marietta project. For example,
signage in different locations that directs people to the farmer's
market or announces Marietta is a welcoming town etc. Signage
directing to the charging station at the Armory would be good
too. Roger Kalter knows lots about the trees in the area - is
Marietta a Tree City USA town? There seems to be a need for some
tree removal and tree planting for creating shade and also
thoughtful planning for attracting birds etc. I'm looking for
lots of ideas that can be whittled down by Sept. 11th. Annie

I think the charging stations are less then $500 but
there would possibly be a cost for installation. Jay
would know for sure because he just finished consulting
with Tri-County Vocational about various solar things and
then purchased a recharging station and installed for
them. The other big issue is that those recharging
stations can bring revenue. Jay and I take "drives" in
our electric care - we drive to Marietta, charge the car
at the Armory. Walk downtown to eat at a restaurant
outside, or buy coffee at Jeremiah's. Then we can walk to
Giant Eagle to buy some groceries. This is money we used
to spend in other places. We often purchase livestock
items at Tractor Supply. I think it would add up to $300
to $500 a month in revenue for the area. If we're doing
this surely others are too, plus it brings people
downtown. Annie

I received news on the Clear Into the Future
Grant that the money will NOT go to the
Sustainability Forum. The Corporate Grant Director
decided the event is more of a sponsorship role.
They would rather fund tangible sustainability

banks to filter water and prevent erosion, etc.

Given the uncertainty around the forum timing

execute projects to showcase in the forum!
