<LI>Gardening Classes in February. Andrew contributed this information on the
series, with theme “How Does Your Garden Grow?"

<LI>Partnering with Social Justice Sunday, the program on February 3 at 1
p.m. would be"Sustainability and Local Sourcing.” This will also launch the
Winter Gardening Series. Three speakers for the first session

<LI>Susie Huser of Community Food Initiatives/Seed Savers Exchange will
discuss the work of that organization which has recently launched their
Southeast Ohio FOODLINK project.
<LI>John Stock, Outreach Coordinator of United Plant Savers, based in
Rutland, OH, will speak about that 25 year old organization's mission "to
protect native medicinal plants of the United States and Canada and their
native habitat while ensuring an abundant renewable supply of medicinal
plants for generations to come.”
<LI>Washington County OSU Extension Agent, Marcus McCartney will then talk
about the OSU Master Gardener Volunteer's school based educational
program, the Junior Farmer's Market. </LI></OL>
<LI>February 10: Master Gardener Volunteer Anita Beeney will demonstrate the
ancient art of ikebana, traditional Japanese flower arrangement and discuss
what flowers she uses in her variety of floral arrangements. Participants
will also get to make an arrangement to take home. A second speaker for this
date is TBA, as we may be having too much fun arranging flowers.
<LI>February 17th, our own George Banziger, a life-long gardener, will
address Winter Seed Sowing using non-traditional materials. Participants
will get to make their own mini-greenhouse using recycled materials. The
second speaker for this date is also TBA, again allowing time for
participant's creativity.
<LI>Feb. 24 brings a Green Sanctuary panel of "wormers." George Banziger,
Dawn Hewitt, and Roger Kalter will demonstrate techniques of vermiculture.
Hopefully, those attending can take home some of these valuable friends of
the earth for their own gardens. Following the worms, OSU Extension Agent,
Marcus McCartney will tell us about some critters we may not want our
"garden" to "grow." Marcus will offer information about the prevalence of
Lyme Disease and deer ticks in the area. He assures me that participants
will not take home samples from this presentation.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby follow-up— Dave Ballantyne: What comes next? </SPAN>
<LI>Mike Bailey has rewritten recycling instructions for FUUSM kitchen. THANK
YOU, Mike. Now, how to get people to read and follow them?
<LI>RE Building energy efficiency update: Dave Ballantyne gave us a great
little summary at the Just Dinner. (Good thing he did!) The changes we have
made are already making a difference on our electric bill!
<LI>River Trail Cleanup: Our laissez-faire approach to our commitment isn’t
working.

<LI>Daryl Ting proposed that GSC members and friends form teams, committed
to responsibility for trail clean-up once a quarter (four times per year for
half a month. That would require six teams.
<LI>Involved: Walking from the Putnam Street Bridge upstream to the “adult
playground,” picking up litter and sweeping aside sweetgum balls. Time
required: 90 minutes tops (when there are a lot of sweetgum balls), more
likely 15 minutes.
<LI>Roger Kalter suggested working with Roger Patterson to get MC ATO
fraternity reengaged.
