Please let your folks know that we have recently become aware of Phishing attempts to gain access to your online church directory (if you have one) or to gain information about members by posing as someone from the congregation.

<div>They often come to members from a “board member” or a staff member asking them to send them information to update in the database. They are in fact from spoof accounts (you can tell if you scan over the email address and see what pops up). As you know
 staff and board members are often listed on websites and so are easily found via a search. From there one would merely need to spoof the email to make it look like it was from one of those persons.</div>

<div>In one case the phishing email asked for a copy of the directory.</div>

<div>In any case, it is wise to let your members know that this isn’t how you would ask for information and before responding to any such email to please confirm the request from the person is presumably came from via a different method - call them, text them
 or send them an email that is new and not a reply.</div>
