Good Evening, <div><br></div><div><div>On June 2nd, 2023, a local legend in the fight to find solutions to the climate crisis passed away and left a void that cannot be filled in our organization or in our hearts. Dave Ballantyne was a kind, generous, soft-spoken, tireless devotee to climate and other forms of social justice. Like many in our organization from its humble beginnings and still today, Dave was a Unitarian Universalist whose passion lead him to finance the solar array you see on the roof of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta—the only solar array on a church in Marietta, OH—and turn ownership over to FUUSM. Dave worked productively with the City of Marietta’s government on climate and sustainability issues and helped lead the Citizen’s Climate Lobby chapter in Marietta. </div><div><br></div><div><img src="cid:3C38A46F-C6D0-42E5-B5E4-894C2E0AF0CC" alt="Inline image" style="width:100%"><div><br></div><span id="m_5386252078905356975m_-1128125997243697959yahoo-rte-cursor-span"></span></div><div>Dave was a member of our organization almost from the beginning, serving as our Treasurer for years. Dave believed firmly in cooperation and that anyone, regardless of beliefs or ideologies or partisan leanings, could and should have productive dialogue on issues that matter, like climate change. He didn’t live by the feud (like I often do), but came to any interaction wanting to see and appreciate the best in another person. </div><div><br></div><div>To Dave’s wife Shari Rose Ballantyne and the rest of his family, fiends and other loved ones, we at Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences, even as we too grieve this tragic loss. It is not just our loss but the world’s. Rest in power, Dave.</div><br>In Solidarity, </div><div><br><div><div>Eric Engle </div><div>Board President </div><div>Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action</div><div>(304) 488-4384</div><div><a href="mailto:ericengle85@yahoo.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">ericengle85@yahoo.com</a></div><div><a href="mailto:ericdengle85@gmail.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">ericdengle85@gmail.com</a> </div><div><br></div><div><img></div><div><br></div>“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless it is faced.” <div>- James Baldwin </div></div></div>
