It was last revised in 1985, and in 2017, an 8<sup>th</sup> Principle addressing racism was proposed, as was an amended 1<sup>st</sup> Principle, addressing nonhuman life. The 7<sup>th</sup> Principle has also been the subject of discussions for possible amendments. In response, the UUA Board established an Article II Study Commission in 2020, charged with proposing changes to be voted upon at the 2023 General Assembly. (I hope these details are reasonably accurate—D.H.) In a nutshell, our 7 Principles would be replaced by seven single-word values, each with a short sentence of explication. (Remember the cover art on the May 7 Order of Service?) For those of us emotionally attached to the Seven Principles of Unitarian Universalism, revising them is a big deal.
