as well as division head; and he served the state of Ohio on the Ohio Humanities
Council. Among many awards from Marietta College, he received research grants
for his publications. His books include Southern Indians in the American
Revolution; Southeastern Frontier, 1540-1840; Cradles of Conscience; Ohio's
Independent Colleges and Universities; Ohio's First Peoples; and Out of the Mud:
