Seeking Peace in a Broken Land

December 9 11am Peggy Gish, Guest Speaker, Worship Leader: Rebecca Phillips

Category: Sunday Services

For the past 16 years, Peggy has been doing international peacemaking and human rights work, mostly in Iraq, but also in Palestine, through the organization, Christian Peacemaking Teams (CPT). She has also worked in northeastern Nigeria with those affected by “Boko Haram” and in Lesbos, Greece with refugees. She has been especially interested in interfaith efforts in these countries for reconciliation and social justice. Here in the U.S., she has been working for peace and justice for the past 50 years. She lives on a farm near Athens, OH, and is a mother and grandmother. Drawing from her experiences of working with the Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) in Iraq over the past 16 years, Peggy will share stories of working alongside local people for justice and peace in that broken and violent society and relate things she’s learned to our current situation here. • Special Forum after Social Hour (Open to the public) - Peggy will show slides and share additional stories and images from their group’s recent work. She has written two books based on her work in Iraq with the Christian Peacemaker Teams: Iraq: A Journey of Hope and Peace (2004), and Walking Through Fire: Iraqis’ Struggle for Justice and Reconciliation (2013), which will be available for purchase at the event.
